Short answer. No train reaches Khao San Road, so the choice is a taxi or the S1 airport bus. The S1 costs ฿60 from Floor 1, Gate 7, runs roughly 06:00–20:00 and stops at Sanam Luang, a short walk away. With heavy bags, or after dark, take a public taxi from Gates 4–7: meter, ฿50 surcharge, tolls, and up to ฿20 a bag over 26 inches.
No rail line reaches Khao San Road. That makes it the corridor where luggage matters most: every rail-based option ends with a long stretch on foot or a second ride, and doing that with a backpack is a different thing from doing it with a suitcase. So every option below is answered twice.
What are the ways from Suvarnabhumi to Khao San Road?
| Option | Where it leaves | What it costs | With big bags | Travelling light |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S1 airport bus | Floor 1, Gate 7; roughly every 30 minutes, about 06:00–20:00 | ฿60, cash on board | Workable — bags stay with you on board | The best value on this route |
| Public taxi | Floor 1, between Gates 4 and 7, 24 hours | Meter + ฿50 surcharge + tolls + up to ฿20 per bag over 26″ | Best — door to door | Fine; traffic sets the time |
| ARL + taxi | B floor, ARL to Phaya Thai, then a city taxi | ฿45 on the ARL, plus a city taxi without the airport extras | Two vehicles, one long transfer — avoid | Beats the worst of the expressway traffic |
| Ride-hailing app | The app’s signposted pickup point | Quoted in the app, changes with demand | Good in a larger car | Fine |
The S1 ends at Sanam Luang, beside the Grand Palace, and Khao San is a short walk from there. It is the cheapest way in by a distance.
Is the S1 bus realistic with luggage?
With a backpack, it is the obvious choice. With one suitcase each, it works: you board at Gate 7, keep the bags with you, and get off at the end of the line, so there is no stop to miss. The limits are the hours and the walk. The last departure is around 20:00 — no official timetable is published, so do not plan on the last bus — and from Sanam Luang you roll your bags the rest of the way.
The rail detour is not worth it with luggage. MRT Sam Yot is the nearest station to Khao San and is still not close, and the route there means the Airport Rail Link, a skywalk interchange and the MRT before you start walking. The BTS operator’s own guidance asks riders not to bring big or heavy packages into its stations at all.

What will a taxi to Khao San charge?
The meter plus three extras the rules allow. The airport’s taxi page lists the ฿50 surcharge and says tolls are the passenger’s to pay; the luggage fee comes from a Land Transport rule in force since November 2020 and applies only to taxis to and from the two Bangkok airports:
- Up to ฿20 a piece for bags over 26 inches.
- Up to ฿20 for every bag after the first two, whatever its size.
- Up to ฿100 for golf bags, bicycles and similar over 50 inches.
- Nothing for backpacks and other carry-on bags, and nothing for mobility aids. The driver must tell you about the fee before you go.
A backpacker with one rucksack pays no luggage fee at all. Two large suitcases add ฿40 at most.
What changes if you send the bags ahead?
The S1 becomes a ฿60 ride with your hands free, at any hour it runs. Our Suvarnabhumi counter is on the B floor in the Airport Rail Link zone, open 24 hours, and we deliver to guesthouses as well as hotels.

- Cost: from ฿299 per bag up to 25 kg; golf bags from ฿399, oversize items from ฿599. Booking is required.
- Timing: same-day for daytime drop-offs; the exact cutoff is shown when you book.
- No Khao San counter. We do not have a branch in Banglamphu, so for this corridor delivery to your guesthouse is the way it works.
Here the arithmetic is blunt: from ฿359 for one bag sent ahead plus the bus, against ฿60 for the bus with the bag at your feet. You are paying ฿299 for the afternoon, not for the journey. It makes sense when the bag is heavy and you would rather spend the afternoon at the Grand Palace than in a guesthouse waiting for check-in — not because it saves money. It does not.
So which should you choose?
- Backpack only, daytime arrival — the S1. ฿60, no luggage fee, and it ends a short walk from Khao San.
- Suitcases, going straight to the guesthouse — taxi. Door to door; the luggage fee is at most ฿20 a large bag.
- Arriving in the evening — taxi. The S1 stops around 20:00 and its timetable is not published officially.
- Early arrival, check-in in the afternoon, heavy bags — send the bags to the guesthouse and take the S1 into the old town. This is the case where delivery earns its price.
- Thinking about the train — don’t, with luggage. No rail line reaches Khao San, and the nearest station leaves you a long walk.
Common questions
How do I get from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Khao San Road?
By the S1 airport bus or by taxi. The S1 costs 60 baht, leaves from Floor 1 at Gate 7, runs roughly 06:00 to 20:00 and ends at Sanam Luang, a short walk from Khao San. A public taxi from Floor 1, Gates 4 to 7, costs the meter plus a 50 baht surcharge, tolls, and up to 20 baht per bag over 26 inches. No train line reaches Khao San. Checked 15 October 2026.
Can I take a suitcase on the S1 bus?
Yes. You keep your bags with you on board, and the bus ends at Sanam Luang, so there is no stop to miss. It is easiest with a backpack or one case each.
Is there a train from Suvarnabhumi to Khao San Road?
No. The nearest rail station is MRT Sam Yot, and it is still not close. Reaching it means the Airport Rail Link, an interchange and the MRT, then a walk – workable with a backpack, a poor choice with suitcases.
Can AIRPORTELs deliver my bags to a Khao San guesthouse?
Yes – from 299 baht per bag up to 25 kg. Drop them at our 24-hour counter on the B floor of Suvarnabhumi, beside the Airport Rail Link. Delivery to Bangkok hotels and guesthouses is same-day for daytime drop-offs; the exact cutoff is shown at booking, and booking is required.
